ES Magazine: Pergola on the Roof returns to bring a slice of the Hamptons to White City
West London rooftop Pergola on the Roof is to re-open this summer, themed around the Hamptons.
Offering a taste of life on Long Island, the pop-up will run for 22 weeks, from May 3 until October 1.
The Wood Lane site, which sits a whopping 50 metres above ground on the roof of the former Television Centre – where BBC staff used to park – opened last year for an initial 14 week run as a Mediterranean-inspired pergola, with the likes of Salt Yard, Le Coqand Rabbit involved. In Winter, it was transformed into a Nordic-themed winter spot, with Snaps & Rye, Gunpowder and Le Bab in residence.
The new incarnation, open Wednesdays to Sundays, will bring the East Coast to London, decked out in white-washed wood and palm trees. The Hamptons are famed as exclusive seaside resorts where the average house price is more than £6 million. Besides being the inspiration for the setting of The Great Gatsby – and somewhere F Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald actually lived – the sprawling villages that make up the area are frequently referenced in hip hop, often making it into Drake and Jay Z's lyrics.
So far, Patty & Bun, 8 Hoxton Square, Breddos Tacos and Bonnie Gull spin-off Salt ‘n’ Sauce all are confirmed for this year's run. There’ll also be two bars, offering a free drink to anyone who signs up online here. Tables can be booked for groups of four or more.
No word on whether the pop-up is promising Long Island weather, but here's hoping.
